Evansville War Museum
During World War II, Evansville was the site of a Republic Aviation factory that built Republic P-47 Thunderbolts for the war effort.
The Evansville War Museum, established in 2017, tells the story of the Evansville region's wartime contributions. The highlight of the museum is their most recent acquisition, a P-47, Tarheel Tal, from the Lone Star Flight Museum in 2020. The airplane was repainted the following year as Hoosier Spirit II, to represent the first P-47 built in Indiana. On display in the museum with the Thunderbolt is a Boeing (Stearman) N2S-1 biplane trainer, a 1943 M4A4 Chrysler Sherman tank, a M37-1 Dodge 3/4-Ton Truck, and a 3/4-ton WC Dodge G-502 Truck. The museum has a number of galleries focused on World War I, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War with numerous artifacts on display.
